Background

The Group is a non-profit making organisation and any profits are donated to local charities.

The Group also provides free advertising service for members to enable them to promote their services.

The Group holds 10 meetings per annum, which are all addressed by professional speakers drawn from a wide area of the country. Meetings are held at the The Marton Hotel & Country Club, commencing at 1.00pm on the last Tuesday of the month.

The Group are supported by the Health and Safety Executive, whose local inspector regularly attends the meetings and updates members on any changes to existing legislation and informs the meeting of any new legislation coming into force.

Associated Safety Bodies


The Group are associated with the following safety bodies:

  • Members of the National Health and Safety Groups Council who are the co-ordinating body for the health and safety groups located within the UK. Through this body the group are affiliated to ROSPA that gives the Group free membership of this body and also provides free publicity for the group in the monthly OS & H magazine. The NHSGC has a membership of 80 groups across the UK

  • Members of the British Safety Council

  • Honorary Members of the North East Chamber of Commerce

  • Links with Teesside Contractors Group & the Teesside SHE Partnership

  • The Group has recently won a regional award consisting of a framed certificate and solid glass globe of the world mounted on a wooden plinth, for their input into the European Week of Health and Safety

Objectives

The objectives of the Group shall be:

  • To advance education in all aspects of health and safety at work and to promote the provision of safe and healthy working environments within industry

  • To promote interest in accident prevention and an awareness in the community of hazards to member organisations within industry

  • To promote and develop a spirit of cooperation and encourage active and effective systems of control in respect of Health and Safety and Welfare, within the member organisation

  • To afford facilities for the dissemination of knowledge including accident prevention, learning incident, the study of the appropriate statutory requirements, codes of practice, guidance notes and proposed legislation relevant to all member organisation activities

  • To Promote lectures and discussions and such training and activities that will further the objectives of the group
