An opportunity not to be missed?
Come along to your local regional meeting and find out. The European Union’s REACH Regulation is a major milestone in chemicals policy, heralding tighter controls and greater pressure for substitution of substances. REACH affects fundamental aspects of occupational hygiene practice REACH aims to avoid exposure to harmful chemicals for workers in all types and sizes of organisation. It puts new duties on manufacturers and importers who will have to communicate along their supply chains Exposure Scenarios and Risk Management Measures for hazardous materials. The development of these Exposure Scenarios and their application by downstream users will pose fresh challenges for occupational hygienists, and provide an opportunity for occupational hygiene as a profession to enhance its profile and status. Exposure Scenarios under REACH are complementary to the situation-specific risk assessments familiar to occupational hygienists. Professional hygienists have the knowledge and skills to help manufacturers and importers develop Exposure Scenarios and to help downstream users apply them for worker health protection. Occupational hygienists are well equipped to play a key role for all those involved in the regulatory process and the supply and use of chemicals. REACH places occupational hygienists in a prime and central position to help with effective implementation of the legislation at all points in the supply chain. To deliver effective implementation, hygienists and occupational health professionals MUST engage. And BOHS’s REACH Steering Group wants to help you do just that, through a series of regional meetings to members. Come along to the North East region’s meeting on Thursday 27 September 2007 from 4pm to 6pm at ST. HELEN’S CHURCH HALL ( for directions visit www.sthelenslowfell.com)
Steve Bailey of GSK, and BOHS’s current President-elect and member of its REACH Steering Group, will be the presenters along with Robin Chapman of BASF giving a view from industry. Contact Marion James, the North East Regional Organiser at
marion.alncroft@hemscott.net to register.
As with most of our regional meetings, this one is free, and attendance can count towards your CPD. Is this an opportunity you can afford to miss? SPONSORSHIP BY ALNCROFT LTD
